Perhaps you have noted it’s been a week since my last post, or perhaps not. I hope the latter is true. It’s not that I haven’t been cooking, I have. It’s not that I haven’t anything to write about, I do. It is merely because I have been a wee bit lazy, if not overly tired and lacking time, and distracted; an altogether irrelevant fact when talking about someone with ADD I know.
The plain and simple truth I’ve been spending much of my extracurricular time on Pinterest.com.
Have you heard of this site yet? If not then I just bluntly have to ask, what rock have you been hiding under? Seriously you really should get out more (raises eyebrows and rolls eyes).
Basically Pinterest.com is virtual cork board where you can pin pictures of things you like from around the web. If things are pinned correctly then each one links back to the original webpage for further reference. Perhaps a recipe or an exotic place to travel to. Maybe you just want to collect pictures of maps or ancient calendars, cute puppy dog faces or maybe just a collection of colorful fly fishing lures. Hey, I respect it.
I’m currently up to 67 boards with a total of 501 pins. This may look like a bit of excess but I assure you there is a method to my madness and honestly it’s really easy to find exactly what I’m looking for.
Let me point out that although I have ADD and often forget where I’ve lain things like my glasses, my car keys and my wallet and I don’t always put the toothpaste back in the drawer (or the toothbrush, hair comb, lotion and face wash), there are certain things I am ridiculously organized about. My kitchen most definitely, my scrapbook shelves (rather neglected as of late) and my filing cabinet. This trait I get from my architect father as well as my perfected skills of procrastination. (see first reason for not posting in over a week) (looks askance) .
Therefore one can deduce I organize my Pin boards the same way. Here’s a snapshot of some of my home boards (yes we’re looking for a home and not having any luck).
And here are some of my food boards. I must admit these dominate my Pinterest account but in all fairness I’ve actually planned whole menus off these boards.
One look at my closet will tell you I am desperately and most pitifully fashionably challenged. My last shopping trip for clothes resulted handing over a ludicrous amount of money at the Buckle store BEFORE realizing only about 10% of anything in that store is acceptable dress for a 41 year old woman. Thankfully there are people in this world that are Jedi Masters at fashion sense and actually pull whole outfits together, take pictures and put them on the internet just so people like myself can actually start buying clothes that make me look solidly put together instead of lost in the wrong generation.
This one is inspiration for my future closet and the figure I hope to have as well, just as soon as squats and pushups and myself come to some agreeable terms and conditions. So far talks are stalemated. Of course they have Mr. Sweet Butter as their hired negotiator which is completely unfair.
Of course getting into that outfit in THAT size also depends on NOT making things like these in my kitchen.
Tell me those pumpkin cakes aren’t the cutest thing in the whole world?
Yes I know those are all desserts but isn’t that why we eat the other food groups first, so we can GET to dessert?
Okay okay, I do have pictures of real food. Here,
I actually made an adaptation of this Moroccan chicken. It’s yummy.
Once upon a time I used to be crafty and even a bit artistic. I used to write poetry and draw. It’s been awhile but I’d like to get back to at least the crafty part of it. This is something else that’s waiting while I try to find my own home. I’m loathe to do anthing just yet because honestly I’ll just have to pack it and move it and unpack it….(sigh).
For the future house that’s out there waiting for me, I’ve created a plethora of boards for practically everything.
These pumpkins and light blub vases are just gorgeous and I would love to make them.
I also love to read and love books. Rows and rows and shelf after shelf of books just makes me giddy. I’m not sure what it is but I think I like the look of books even more than reading them. Maybe not. One thing I have always wanted in my home was a library full of beautiful old books.
Pinterest.com had some pictures of some incredibly creative ways to add bookshelves to a home, like this idea for stairs,
How genius is that to remove the stair wall and railing and put in a book shelf instead? Exactly, genius.
This is better though or maybe just as brilliant. Instead of a boring hallway how about wall to wall bookshelves?
Maybe I should just buy an old library and remodel some of the spaces to add living accommodations. I could do that. My rooms could be constructed in the sections that have matching books. The kitchen could be in the cookbook section of course.
Of all the rooms in our house (when we find one) I am looking forward to creating is actually not a room at all, it’s the backyard.
A greenhouse is a dream of mine, a relaxing swing would be heaven and an outdoor fireplace, well sure I live in Florida but trust me I would use it as often as possible.
Oh and a pergola is a must. Mr. Sweet Butter has already put on notice a home with any kind of back space will see us building a pergola shortly after we take up residence. I love pergolas how can you not look at these.
They can fit any space and honestly I would love to have one above my bed (maybe). Plant viney things and they make a natural shade cover and just look so much better than a piddly umbrella. They actually create a living space outside. Of course you can get a bit carried away I think.
I have mixed feeling about this room. I can’t call it a deck because it really is just another room without walls. In fact it’s practically a small apartment if you notice that it has living, dining and kitchen spaces in it. I could really enjoy a room like this if I didn’t live in Florida and I can’t think of a place I could enjoy this room every day for six or more months of the year. But still I’m drawn to it. It’s elegant and extravagant.
At the end of the day though I won’t want a big home. I don’t want more space than I need and I really would prefer something cozy.
Unless we’re talking about the kitchen.
I dream of creating beautiful music in my kitchen with my mixer and pots and pans. Would it be ok if I could just marry these three things together?
The big tub sink, bright sunlight, double ovens and oh save me that cobble brick hood calls to me in my sleep. I know it’s wrong to lust after material objects, it’s not zen at all but…but…but… I want that! I really really want that! Of course right beneath that hood would be that beautiful double French oven with six burner gas stove.
Alas I fear it will only be in my dreams because although I live in a state that is nearly 80% water and laying on an ocean of natural gas it seems running gas lines is too much work for the public utility companies because finding a home with gas is insanely difficult.
A cook without a gas stove is like a Drew Brees (QB for the Saints) throwing a Nerf football. It’s like Oprah wearing cubic zarconia; Donald Trump and his toupe. Julia Childs having never lived in France.
Speaking of France, Mr. Sweet Butter is going to take me around the world; he doesn’t know this yet of course but for when I break the news to him I’ve started collecting places we will go.
Ok so you can easily guess the first one,
Of course, France. I want to shop at that market and float dreamily through the lavendar fields, both of which are in Provence. Ah France!
Of course some exotic places would be completely necessary as well. I want to walk the Great Wall of China exactly at that spot. I want to take a photo from that same perspective and then walk the wall to the end there up on the hill.
I want to soak up the green hue and majesty of these craggy hills in Iceland and then walk up to that little red house, knock on the door and see how answers. Then I want to ask them where do they go grocery shopping. 🙂
This picture looks like a painting but it’s a field of flowers, the same flowers to be precise. Can you guess what they are? They’re my favorite flower in the world and like the wonderfully romantic husband that he is, Mr. Sweet Butter knows exactly what that is.
Have you guessed yet?
Tulips; acres and acres of tulips fields in Holland. How incredibly dreamy they are, even fairy like. They make me want to cry they are so beautiful I couldn’t even imagine what they look like in real life. Someday I hope I know that first hand.
My travel boards have grown a lot lately. What are some places you you like to go?
Of course then I have other boards as well.
Sometimes I am helplessly lost to the cute and adorable; the things that just melt my heart.
Or when I just need a good laugh. I dig the Persius Potato with the Medusa carrot head. Do you ever look at pictures and come up with your own caption lines for them?
Then sometimes I just need some deep inspirational words of wisdom. Word to live by I think. Perspective is always a good thing.
Like this. Sweet, simple and complete perspective.
This however is the end of this post but I promise it’ll be ok because I’m going to get back into the groove of posting and I will try to limit my time on Pinterest. I have recipes to share and ramblings to filter.
So go check out Pinterest if you haven’t because I’m going to use your rock to decorate my backyard. If you’re on Pinterest let me know, look me up, follow me and I’ll follow you. What will you Pin? Oh and want to find out about any of those pictures, you can find the likes to the original sites and blogs from their boards on my Pinterest account. Not sure where one is, just ask.
Ok I may not have many readers but I truly believe I have the best ones in the whole world because you are active, lively, thoughtful, creative and make me smile. So in leaving I would like to have some fun.
Look at the pictures of the animals above and leave me a comment of captions you come up with for any of them. Do one, do them all, I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!
