It’s a wicked world out there people, there’s no denying it. Read the papers, turn on the news, listen to the constant wail of sirens outside, they all tell the same story. Crime is rampant.
Children cant play unattended or ride their bikes around the neighborhood.
Women have to walk using the buddy system.
Cars have to be locked, armed and parked inside at night.
Gone are the days when houses were left unlocked. Now they are locked up tight at all hours of the day.
Our valuables are locked in safes and wallets and purses are kept close at hand.
Even finding a babysitter to trust is hard to do.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
More and more honest, hard working, people are turning to personal and home security; we have to. Mayberry is gone and little suburbs are starting to feel like East LA.
Neighborhoods across the country and even parts if the globe are establishing community watches and patrol zones.
Here in my area police car patrols are a daily scheduled occurrence. Even in my safe area they bring comfort.
These can only go so far though.
Dogs known for their fierce protective nature are becoming a popular new addition to families. The dangerous and forbidding guttural bark from a no-nonsense dog is an excellent deterrent and would make any criminal think twice.
But there is always the risk the perpetrator will get the upper hand or the beloved family SWAT member on four legs gets injured or killed. A charging dog is no match for a speeding bullet.
Speaking of bullets, more and more states are passing laws giving home owners the right to not only carry weapons in the house but to also shoot on site if threatened. Like here in Florida for example, it’s perfectly within someone’s right to shoot first and ask questions later if they feel their home, property or family are being threatened.
This only works in the event the home owner is awake and can get to their weapon in time.
Then there are home security systems. They are probably one of the best investments for your home and can even reduce your insurance rates.
Most come with 24 hour monitoring, motion detection, complete perimeter security and are fairly inexpensive.
They come with added benefits as well. Since most have entrance warnings that set off a high pierced quick beep whenever a window or door is opened they are great for families with small children who like to wander off on their own. Or perhaps a teenager who likes to sneak out, OR in, at night.
You can of course go to extremes and employ the use of all of them. You can patrol the neighborhood in full combat gear, set up snipers on the roof, install a home security system and the whole family can pack heat while sitting at the dinner table as Rover the rabid Rottweiler chews happily on the femur of the latest death row inmate.
We don’t feel the need to go that far just yet but we did feel home security was an important thing. Unpredictable and dangerous times call for desperate measures though. So recently we had probably the most full proof perfect security that money can buy installed.
I’ve never felt so safe.
