I love food. Ever so much.
I love eating food, I love watching people make food, I love making food myself – I even like shopping for food!
When I was a little girl, my mom and my grandmother always included me in the kitchen. Whether we were baking a cake or sautéing vegetables, they spent countless hours imparting their wisdom to me. I still maintain my mom (and now I) make the best spaghetti sauce!
Cooking was always an occasion – family dinner, Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays. Food was at the center of it!
I didn’t really get in to cooking for myself, though, until my now husband and I moved in together. It was far easier in college and shortly after to subsist on popcorn, dry pasta creations, and various types of sugary cereal.
My husband was a much more adventurous cook than I. He started to find recipes online, get inspired watching cooking shows, and decide we were going to make something completely out of my baked-chicken-and-steamed-asparagus wheelhouse.
When my husband started working full-time (and I worked from home) I started cooking for my husband regularly.
I still make the occasional baked-chicken-and-steamed-asparagus meal, and I must admit, popcorn still plays a large role in my lunchtime happenings, but for the most part, I’m in to cooking adventurously!
I’ve already mentioned my adventurous cook of a husband, Michael. He and I have a lot of fun together in and out of the kitchen. He’s wildly intelligent, a sports fanatic, and reads more than anyone I’ve ever met. It also helps that he’s probably one of the most tolerant people I’ve ever met, so he can handle my nuttiness!
The other light of my life is my dog Maddie. Named for Madison where Michael and I went to college, she is constantly bringing joy, silliness, and fun into my life – and the occasional bark fest during a conference call when her nemesis, the UPS driver, arrives.
Here are a few pictures of the little muffin when she was a pup and from more recently!
Curious to know more? Here are some fast facts about me:
- I’m irrationally afraid of spiders. I found one behind my couch last week and decided we needed to move and burn the couch. Michael thinks it was an overreaction…
- I’m an avid needlepointer – I do needle crafts of all kinds, but Needlepoint and Cross Stitch are by far my specialties. I love the colors, how creative you can be with different stitches and different threads, and how cute everything looks when it’s finished!
- I love reading, especially fantasy books. Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and His Dark Materials are my favorites
- My favorite dish to make is Chicken Curry. It smells unbelievable, people think you’re working a lot harder than you are, and I always feel so accomplished when it’s finished. Best with homemade naan, I’ll make a curry fan out of you yet!
